Mitsubishi FX-Series Programmable Logic Controller

Mitsubishi FX1N PLC

Background: Introduced in 2000 the FX1N added additional functionality over the FX0N and provided additional means of expandability with the possibility of expanding to the right and the left. The FX1N could use the FX2N Series adapter boards and special function blocks, which in combination with the available expansion boards provided an unprecedented variety of expansion options.
Lifecycle: Introduced (2000) - Discontinued (December 2015)

Service Life: Repair Period Ends 2022

Migration Info: Currently the FX1N PLC is still available for existing users, but the FX3G PLC should be used in place of an FX1N PLC. The FX3G has the same I/O configurations as the FX1N and the terminal blocks can be removed from the FX1N and placed in the FX3G, so no additional wiring is required. FX1N PLCs can be programmed using the same software as the FX3G, but some review is necessary to ensure that all functions of the program are migrated successfully. Please contact your local Mitsubishi representative if additional assistance is required.

Background: The FX1S provided a low-cost option for entry-level PLC control with a wide variety of I/O size and power options.

Migration Info: The FX3S PLC should be used in place of an FX1S PLC. The FX3S has the same I/O configurations as the FX1S, with wiring and dimensions being very similar if not identical. Mitsubishi FX2N, FX2NC PLC

Background: Released in 1997 the FX2N provided major advancements in processing speed and functionality with new options for complex mathematical calculations and data processing. The FX2N also added new expansion options for Ethernet communications, analog and temperature control, and high-speed positioning. The FX2NC provided an ultra-compact option for tight spaces.

Mitsubishi FX, FX0, FX0N, FX0S PLC

Background: Released in 1990 the FX Series represented a significant design change from existing PLCs. The footprint of the hardware was dramatically reduced, allowing FX PLCs to be used in new applications and industries. Additionally, communication ports with standard connectors were also introduced, enable increased connection capabilities. The FX Series includes the FX, FX2, FX2C, and FX1 PLCs.

Background: Released in 1991 the FX0 created a new option for users looking for a product at a lower price point, but that could still perform all of the functions they expected from a micro PLC.

Background: The FX0N presented an additional option for users who were looking for a larger I/O count, but only needed limited functionality. Mitsubishi iQ-F Series FX5 PLC

The MELSEC iQ-F series from Mitsubishi Electric is the new “all-inclusive standard” in the field of compact controllers. With a processor which is three times faster than its predecessor, it will enhance system performance as well as productivity.
With integrated functions such as high-speed counters and pulse outputs for cost-effective high-performance positioning tasks, as well as an Ethernet interface and analogue inputs and outputs (I/Os) for PID controllers, for example, the FX5 series is not just ideally equipped for today’s machine building needs but also suitable for universal use in all industrial sectors.
Models are available with 32, 64 and 80 I/O. For output type there is a choice between digital relay and transistor versions. All the basic units can be expanded to up to 256 I/Os by fitting expansion modules or to up to 512 I/O via suitable networks (CC-Link, CC-Link IE Field, Ethernet, Profibus and Profinet).
The controller can perform even more complex positioning tasks without any additional modules. Functions such as fast counters and pulse outputs up to a frequency of 200 kHz are integrated in all the basic units, which enable the control of up to four independent axes. The MELSEC FX5 series is also universally backward compatible and provides easy and cost-effective migration from MELSEC FX3. With a bus converter, the expansion modules from the existing FX3 series can also be used.
